The new keyboard with a butterfly button structure, which Apple uses on the 16-inch MacBook Pro for the first time and called the Magic Keyboard, is among the most important innovations of this new model. Let’s not forget the 10th generation Intel Core processor options. In the MacBook Air 2020 review, you can find our impressions of this entry-level laptop from Apple.

MacBook Air 2020 review: Design
Apple made notable changes to the MacBook Air in terms of design in 2018 and brought the air of more current models to the series, which it has not updated for a long time.
The 2020 MacBook Air does not look different from its predecessor in terms of design. Space gray, silver and gold color options are also available.
The screen is surrounded by a black bezel, and the MacBook Air lettering on the lower edge of this frame looks very nice. In the frame on the upper edge of the screen is the FaceTime webcam.
It would not be wrong to say that the 13.3 inch MacBook Air has almost the same surface area as the 13 inch MacBook Pro.
The conical profile, which is the symbol of the MacBook Air, is also preserved in the 2020 model. The laptop cover is very light and you can easily lift it with a single finger and wake it up.
MacBook Air is a stylish notebook with its aluminum body.
MacBook Air 2020 review: Hardware, Performance and Battery
First of all, let’s start with the screen. The 13.3-inch corner-to-corner LED-backlit display of the MacBook Air has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.
With its 227ppi pixel density, it meets enough criteria by Apple to qualify it as “Retina”. The screen, which has an aspect ratio of 16:10, is scaled to display at lower resolutions by default, resulting in sharper text and graphics than normal. In this respect, a sharpness similar to what we see on devices such as iPhone and iPad is captured.
The brightness of the screen may not be as high as on the MacBook Pro. However, many users will have the opportunity to work comfortably on this screen. For outdoor use, the screen offers sufficient brightness.
The viewing angles of the screen with IPS technology are wide. Even if you look at the screen from a fairly wide angle, there is no visible change in colors. You may only notice a slight decrease in brightness.
True Tone technology, which we know from Apple’s devices such as iPhone and iPad, is also on the screen of the MacBook Air.
The laptop detects the light conditions of the environment and adjusts the color temperature of the screen accordingly. In this way, you can get a slightly more natural image.
You will notice the difference, especially when working in applications with a dense white background, such as word processing. In addition, True Tone technology will make your eyes more comfortable while surfing the internet and reading.
Apple offers 10th generation Intel Core processors in 2020 model MacBook Airs. At the top of the list is the 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 processor model, which we also reviewed. This model also has Turbo Boost up to 3.2 GHz and 4 MB L3 cache.
Apple makes 8 GB of RAM the standard for the first time this year. 256 GB SSD is also among the features of our entry-level MacBook Air model.
The hardware package we have detailed above is not a sufficient package for middle or upper-middle level users. However, we must say that the performance of the MacBook Air surprised us a little.
When we look at the battery side, the MacBook Air has a 49.9 watt-hour battery. According to Apple, this battery offers up to 30 days of standby time. Up to 11 hours of internet surfing with a wireless connection and up to 12 hours of watching movies from the Apple TV app are also among the values given for the battery.
A 30W USB-C charging adapter and USB-C cable are included in the box. In about 50 minutes, 40 percent of the battery is charged. If you want to use the computer and charge it on the one hand, it will be possible to fully charge the battery in two and a half to three hours.
With speakers placed on either side of the keyboard, the MacBook Air offers stereo sound. It has a sound output above the standards of a laptop. The intensity is loud, the bass is strong, and the treble at high volume is not uncomfortable. It also offers a full sound output. You don’t need to connect another speaker while watching a movie.
MacBook Air 2020 review: Magic Keyboard and Trackpad
Apple started to use keyboards with a butterfly button structure with the MacBook model, which was first released in 2016. This keyboard had shallow keys, but typing was also enjoyable. The keys are large, the movement of the fingers on the keyboard was comfortable.
In the years that followed, this keyboard spread to all MacBook computers. The MacBook Air model released in 2018 also has this kind of keyboard. Comments on keyboards with butterfly mechanisms varied from person to person.
Apple has made various changes and improvements to make this keyboard better, but eventually abandoned them and switched to a scissor-switch keyboard that it called the Magic Keyboard with the MacBook Pro 16-inch model it launched in late 2019.
The keyboard keys of the MacBook Air 2020 are backlit. There is a function key row at the top. At the same time, they have been assigned screen brightness, keyboard lighting brightness and multimedia controls.
Users will also like the shape of the arrow keys. As a result, you can type quickly and comfortably with Magic Keyboard.
In the upper right corner is the power button where the Touch ID fingerprint reader is placed. You can add a fingerprint during the initial setup, or you can do it later. You just need to add the index finger of the right hand, and this is the best for practical use.
The fingerprint reader also works very quickly.
MacBook Air 2020 review: Software
MacBook Air 2020 comes with macOS Catalina 10.15 installed. This version released by Apple in autumn 2019 is the most current desktop operating system version currently available. With Catalina, a feature like Sidecar is offered.
If you have an iPad with iPadOS 13 installed, you can use it as a second screen with MacBook Air. Apart from that, we see three different applications such as Music, TV and Podcasts instead of iTunes.
Catalina has a positive impact on performance, and the same is true for MacBook Air. On top of that, if you install an application that controls the apps and services running in the background, such as App Tamer, you can achieve better performance results.
You can download applications offered from the Mac App Store, as well as download applications from different sources. However, Apple is very sensitive about running such applications.
You may be asked for your permission to open applications offered from unknown sources, maybe they may not be allowed to open at all. As a result, in terms of security, what MacBook Air has to offer will benefit the targeted mainstream user base.
MacBook Air 2020 review: Conclusion
With its affordable price, MacBook Air is the ideal starting point for anyone looking to own an Apple laptop.
The entry-level MacBook Air model with a Core i3 processor will be sufficient for those who do not deal with very complicated tasks on the computer, such as surfing the internet, researching for lessons, preparing projects or homework in software such as iWork or Office.
In terms of battery performance, it does not seem to let users down easily. If you are going to deal with photo editing or video making and you want a product that you can carry outside comfortably, and if your budget is also sufficient, it will be better to choose the model with Core i5 processor.
With its design, screen, ease of use and Magic Keyboard keyboard, MacBook Air can be described as an Apple laptop that meets the expectations easily.
